Rene and Poet 14

Poet facing Rene, trying to keep a straight face retold of how he spoke to his beloved of his long love for her.

Poet: Rene I shall now tell you of the story of how finally I told my beloved of the heavenly love I had for her. After you left me I struggled for a while within my soul whether to declare to her of my consuming desire to know her.

The struggle within my soul went like this: Oh Poet, tonight is the night I must break my yoke. I wished it happened spontaneously wherein I had no time to contemplate my words. Nerves have penetrated the depths of me and since I’ve desired and been persuaded by Rene, I must deliver. This is my first voyage of this kind and before I sail I am stricken with a fever of a familiar kind. Some have called it sea sickness and if I encounter it now without ever sailing how much more when I and the sea should meet. I am sure those amiable dovelike eyes will do not much to calm my nerves but I must be a man - I must fasten my belt, hold my head high and swim if the ship should wreck. I reminisce on my training and how sweet she was to me and how happy and sad we did play in my imaginations. But have I taking her kindness for love and fall deluded to her heavenly smile; whatever truth it may be, one thing I know is that I am in love and she is worthy for me to tell her although I be so unworthy of such a companion. Oh my heart, whatever flames may burn I must burn with it. Whatever she says I must be content with it. Oh my soul can we ever love again - will we be able to sail again if we cannot sail on her steady calm stream. Such was the reasoning’s within my soul that I was persuaded at last that I must know for the sake of my own soul, for the sake of peace and sleep.

Rene: Even to the end, you struggled internally. But I am proud of you my boy, now pour on me the sugar of your story. For I see a lively lavish smile twinkling in your eyes. I know you too well my love to ever keep me in suspense. Tell me of the pleasure in declaring to her your love - I fear now I shall never see you again.

Poet declared to Rene what happened in their conversation and of how she had felt the same way. She loved him and he loved her - both now united after a season of deep affectionate longings for one another.

Rene and Poet 13

Poet: Oh Rene, I am sick. I am laden with a fever which sees me unable to eat nor sleep. I take it back - I should not call it a sickness for it is sweet to my soul. It arises from loving her and this past days being so close in proximity as intensified my eternal passions. I no longer can stay away, no longer can I hide my love but must make it known. For the sake of my own soul I must know her conclusion, I must know something of the knowledge which is contained inside her sweet soul. O, how she is better than a pearl, she is magic, a mythical creature, a sense of awe and affable. She is the light to overcome my darkness.

Poet laid still with a delicious smile on his face, starring at Rene with a sweet disposition.

Rene: Let us rise to engage in this battle, let us cripple this fear which has held you from your declaration. Its time to wake and risk - come my sweetheart. I am with you friend.

Poet: In case I fall and faint, make sure you catch me. But we shall be alone - what if I'm unable Rene. What if..

Rene: You fear a fear you should not fear - your emotions are far to high to fail you now. Your love is strong enough to overcome this beast. The shame is not as bad as you think, no one will fault you - I will be glad at last that you stood for what you believed in. I am for you in this ambition; you will not fail.

With a deep sigh, Poet smiled and prepared his heart and words for the battle.

Rene and Poet 12

Poet: Oh you caught me wandering again, you caught me musings in the midst of the early sunshine where I do dream so happily of my beloved. Oh Rene you are ever so sly that you creep up on me in my happiest hours.  I was in a very friendly atmosphere of a lively vivacity which her presence created. I was lost in wonder and awe amidst Eden where both of us did lie and play. Angels attended immediately to our desires providing heavenly nourishment of the godliest taste. Then you came and interrupted my joy, but your fragrance awakened me for it smelt like that aroma which were balm on the body of Christ.

Oh Rene let me not fear a fear lest it comes upon me. I do not have the art of concealing from you my most intimate thoughts and dispositions but this fear I dread not fall upon me. I would happily die with this love in my heart and rest in peace if I could only enter that garden for which my heart longs. To rest upon those soft nourishing green pastures and play as a child.

Rene: My light, Few men have been blessed with worthier and better friends than it has been my portion to be blessed with you. You are to me better than the choicest wine and your company I desire, for in it I lack nothing.

Both boys then began to converse about their ambitions and what they hope to be.

Rene and Poet 11

Poet: Oh Rene, this day is as fine a summers day I ever knew. See my dear lover, the sun setting in its glory but yet I see her luminary shining with greater lustre and in more effectual strength.
Her genial warmth and graciousness of temper is as a pearl in appearance. Dullness and sorrow fled at her approach and it is said of her that she pours herself into all the channels of social intercourse.
Oh Rene, I am lost in her summer seasons, that which is constant through all the variables of this fleeting life.

Rene: You touch me ever so gently and warmly with your lively imaginations of her.
You were born in the long summer thus it is entirely natural for you to be awakened by a girl who is the perfect radiance of her.

Poet: She is better and radiates a better odour. Her colours are ten times superior to that which summer decorates.

For the rest of that day Poet and Rene enjoyed the sizzling sunshine taking occasional rest in the shades manufactured by the age old trees.

Rene and Poet 10

On a spring day, Rene and Poet sat beneath an oak tree; protected from the fuming rays of the sun began to speak of a tranquil subject which delighted Poets soul.

Rene: My darling friend, do not be unaware of the real power of love which I have for you. It is a formidable force, an unbreakable defence that even the Titans cannot rent a tear.

Poet: I am not unaware my sweet friend. The past year have made me a friend to it. The depths of love deepens in regards to its object and while I maintain that God is the highest being whose love sees no end, yet I know something of its nature because of my love for her.

Rene: Oh heart of my own heart; do not loose ground on this remarkable love and yet do not delay the proposal of your bill lest the ground be occupied by another.

Poet: I will not tarry my dear, I will be swift and gentle. And whatever she may choose, she is at perfect liberty to vote as she sees fit.

She intrudes into my daily thoughts and conversations. At times I feel I stand and live in her world. Oh this pleasing pain, this terrible and awesome affliction that Adam must have felt for Eve after she successfully tempted him. Yet she is no Eve. She is of a more noble and righteous disposition for she learnt wisely from Eve's mistake and her years have been spent in the house of righteousness. No serpent may oblige or charm her. Oh what grace and purity manifested.

Rene: Brother, your words are ever so lofty.

Rene smiled gracefully and Poet laid his head on Rene's chest listening to nature's pacing beat.

Rene and Poet 9

Rene: You are the brightest,  cheerful, warm-hearted boy I know. A sweet smell of the very earth, a rock and a solitude. I feel safe when I am with you for you will soon give your life for me before I give mine for you. I love you more than tongue can tell and you must love me in the same way.

Poet: Oh my sweet sunshine, I love you more and should war come beyond those high walls and foreign men come with swords and stones, I shall defend you with every air I breathe and seek your safety before I fall.

Rene: What of her? (He paused for a while) for you cannot protect the both of us.  What if you had to choose my sweet friend, what will you do? Oh let me not live to see you brought to such a wretched state, for I will choose for you.

Poet: My Love, I will see to it that the both of you will be well. I will not choose but hold my tongue and offer my life. The gods forbid that I should be found in such a state but whatever theme it may be you both will live.

This is a heavy conversation my dear, it is heavy to my soul. Let us move to a more lighted talk.

Rene: Oh Poet, your disposition is that of a butterfly, like a bird and filled with many colours. Let us speak of her, tell me your feelings for her once again.

(Poet spoke all afternoon about His beloved and then both went to the river for a swim).

Rene and Poet - part 8

Poet: Oh Rene, you cannot say to the fire, you shall not burn so it is with my love. It burns at the highest degree and it is forever increasing. Her flame is of that reddish nature of which legends have called the phoenix and I am the only one to have touched it and not melt because my love for her is unquenchable. Though many waters collapse upon my fire it shall shine all the brighter.

Oh Rene, in my imagination I could feel the sweetness of love itself graze my skin and light up the house. It was her presence which pioneered nature’s morning song. I remember sitting with fixed eyes glaring with a transcendence attention at her eyes, hearing beauty speak of tranquil matters which quietens her soul. It charmed her heart as she spoke so softly but my heart was alarmed for she spoke of a man, an heavenly man of whom she has met and it is clear that he has won her heart.

Oh Rene, I wish to break and tear my soul in pieces for falling so short but she spoke of Christ of whom there is no equal. In heaven or in earth He is one of a kind. She tells of how He is inside her and at night she would all of a sudden be filled with a torrent of emotion that lifts up her soul to heaven itself where her eyes sees the Christ and how he dwells with her and comforts her soul with his earthly stories. She spoke and I listened.

Rene: Poet, it seems your love is of a nice spirit; now we are sure of the source of her disposition. I shall love to meet her too but it is all of your imagination. Lets hope this comply with reality.

Rene and Poet - part 7

Poet: Oh, Rene, after a glass of wine, fanciful imaginations began to occupy my mind. They were sweeter than the wine I drunk and the imaginations did put a joyous expression upon my face.

Rene: Poet, I am yours for a time; indulge me with your intricate imaginations

Poet: Sweet lover of mine, allow me a space upon your thigh for my head. Look how the heavens fade because its bridegroom has gone away - it is how I feel when my future bride is far from me.
My imagination was of her which is no surprise to you - it was like a sweet smelling aroma to my nose and there I beheld her breathtaking jovial face. She looked at me with the highest of love, her dovely eyes penetrated my chained soul. Yea I am chained to her love, happily imprisoned held by my devotion to her manner. She was altogether mine, her whole being and method were now one with mine and we possessed a divinely love of which death may scratch for infinity and never tear nor mark.

Rene: I adore your feelings, I wish I had the capacity to cherish like you but I’m of a harder nature.

Poet: Oh Rene, love cannot be forced but when you behold a beauty of sublime attractiveness, the beauty itself will create love in your heart and melt you to a fountain of fluent chocolate.

(Poet continued to tell Rene about his imagination and we shall hear more of it next time)

Rene and Poet - part 6

Poet: Perhaps tonight she may know my Love for her. Not because she is beautiful but because she is more of me as I am. I tell you our souls are made of the same thing. My love for her is as the eternal sun, always shining and never fading. Oh I am hers, our separation is unspeakable-  Shall she refuse me, what will I do except to sit in my grave and close my casket. She is my idol, and thus far a bitter life I have fought and struggled only for her.

Rene: Oh Poet, you speak as if she is all of your entertainment and have forgotten me. Am I not a pleasure to your soul, am I not the boy you love to kiss in the rising of the sun. although I do not compare our loves yet am I meaningless to you when you speak so lofty of her.

Poet: Oh Rene, let my tongue be cut if I have offended thee; you are to me many waters, the refreshing of my soul, the comfort of my misery. But I am a man weak to her affection, I speak without sense and live when I see her a clueless man. Oh she is to me the magic of life, the limit of all beauty and joy.

Rene: Poet my sweetness, refrain from making her an idol for she is not God

Poet: AH! she may not be but it is evidence that she is the daughter of God for only such hands could make such beauty.

Rene: Oh foolish poet, utter no such blasphemies for we know that God only has a Son. Nevetheless come with me.

Poet: Whereto my love?

(he grabs Poet and led him gently to the mouth of the river where they collected colourful pebbles for their evening adventure).

Rene and Poet - part 5

Above the earth, the sun beams shines on the green pastures where Rene and Poet lay with affectious fondness for one another. Poet has just awoken and while asleep Rene analysed his frowning expressions and then asked him what brought him such sorrows.

Rene: You must tell me your dream, my loving Poet, your expressions brought a great sense of sadness to my soul, what worries you?

Poet: Ah Rene, the sun shines like the radiance of her beauty and this grass displays the bounty of her laughter. I dreamt of her again but I had to forbid my willing tears to flow. She is the soothing source where all my sorrows pour and the source of which my grief endures.

Rene: What brought about such misery?

Poet: I found myself with another youth walking to a house near the street. It was adorable and the air was the most comfortable to breathe. We entered after being greeted by a man of lovely features, smart and eloquent in his speech and wonders were hidden in the staring of his blue eyes. I could not look away until a greater beauty flooded my eyes. It was her, dressed in a colourful dress with hearty designs of bright and dark colours. She wore a brown purple scarf  with black stockings to display a tower of modesty.  On top of her God given carefully made figure, she wore a black open Jacket and I stared with eyes of love that such a beauty I have never uncovered nor will be found among the daughters of Eve.

I noticed that she was dressed for Him and immediately for my sake of not possessing her, tears translucently dropped from my eyes. It was a witness to my sorry affections and she noticed my disposition and with a gentle stroke she drew near and beseeched what the matter was with my gentle face.

Then I awoke, sweet Rene, it was a horror, but it is but a dream, an awakening dream that tells me that I must make my move soon before she falls under the spell of another of Adam’s offspring.

Rene: Oh Poet, your light hearted heart cannot bear such dreams, rise with me and we shall venture to my mansion and eat a feast.

Rene and Poet part 4

Rene: Charming Poet, the Sun is soon to rise and we must go by the hill to arrest the cascade of the water fall. Arise from your rest.

Poet: The Morning is gentle, soft to my soul, yet I am awaken from my dream. I could cry Rene but my speech of it will release the pain of your insensitivity.

Rene: Oh Poet, you are indeed true to your fancy. Declare your speech to me.

Poet: I did dream that I saw her in a dress and wearing a stunted skirt than usual but with great modesty. I cannot abolish her from my reverie and desires and when she appears it is continuously with a superior taste. But I doubt Rene that she will ever be mine for I am most unworthy of her gaze and yet it is impossible for me to resist her. I did entertain the solemn thought that if I should remain an enuch for the rest of my days, that I would adopt a young child and raise her up according to her manners and call her her name, and if by grace I should posses a seed of my own her name will flourish my daughter's face.

Rene: Ah Poet, I do wonder when your fancy will be yours; perhaps she entertains the same with her girls, (Rene laughs). Arise and let us wet our heads. (Poet wrestled him to the ground with delightful cheer and off they went to the hill).

Rene and Poet part 3

Rene: Here we are Poet and there is your beloved. Your eyes may be blind to one but there are many flowers in this field; I will sit here a while and feast my eyes upon their playfulness and in due time we shall join their course.

Poet: Sweet Rene, the apple of my eyes. Since our eternal youth you have been such a boy, a boy who loved many colours and your paintings were to distracting to gaze upon. But as for me, if my eyes are blind to her superb beauty, then a happy boy I am indeed.

Rene: What if she delights in another colour, a colour not your own. What if she has a desire for another fragrance? What then shall be your life?

Poet: To think of such days will only bring misery upon my loving soul. But now look how my arms and legs swing and move with ease; do you see the twinkling in my eye, it is all the production of her eloquence. I am yet to speak to her and look how she excites me from afar. What then will happen if she should touch me; the sensation would be unbearable and the passion unquenchable. I could sit here dear Rene and gaze upon her beauty, I would be satisfied if this alone was my portion.

Rene: Adorable Poet, the very sweetness of my tongue. I do pray for you that your fancy lead you not into a most severe melancholy- but you are indeed handsome and your hair softer than the sheep's wool. (He stroke Poet's hair and tickled him till both were filled with laughter).

Rene and Poet part 2

Rene: My dear Poet, when thou set your starry eyes upon her, what shall be your speech?

Poet: What beauty is the day today my precious Rene; marvellous it is; my heart screams joy as the sun shines so rightly in its place. It is so distant and so far away but yet its light penetrates into our darkness. May it penetrate into my fancy. I think of her on days like this, even more when it rains because it shows my tears.
Although my love is rare, can I pave a compliment that will attract her to me. Can I tell her that she is beautiful, that I adore her more than any other woman in this world. Can I tell her that I want her to be mine, can I tell her without her rejecting me. Can I look her in the eyes and not be quickened to look down. But will she fall for me? will she look deeper into this brown eyes and see this beauty that is in this red heart. Will she look and not stumble, will she be amazed and be astonished, bringing her to her knees and saying that will you be mine or will she only look for a second and turn away. How long will my misery run?

Rene: Until you speak my sweet Poet. Now put on your feet the sandals of boldness and come with me. On such a day like this, she will be by the river, the river of eternal life as some legends proclaim. There the pretty girls do play and dance and the boys sit and laugh. But we have a more noble task. (He grabs Poet by the hand, kissed him on the cheek and off they went).

Rene and Poet

Rene: So, my good Poet, why the Long face?

Poet: I really genuinely don’t know which step I ought to take for I am besotted with her but when I do see her all of my premeditative plans seems to be non existent and I feel somewhat unworthy and my soul is quietened within me. Perhaps I wish for her not to know although I do but I am not yet convinced either way whether her feelings are reciprocal so yet I linger in the dark but I must not stay there too long lest a charming handsome guy should take her away and forever is my opportunity gone. So what must I do? (Shrugs his shoulder, and then pauses for a little while).
For I enjoy our friendship but I think that at times because of my disposition to withdraw and remain quiet and hardly display no affection that I may be driving her away so I must change and perhaps be loose but to behave in this manner, I am not well trained so my folly may be evident and she being quick natured and cultured may see this and take the wrong assumption from it; although if she made the right assumption then I would be glad, then I could take notice of her following actions and that should give me clear signs of what she thinks of me.

Rene: My Poet, what is she to you?

Poet: She is to me when I’m with her like a summer’s afternoon, the butterflies wandering up and down, the flowers ever so green and hearing the soft sounds of the water trickling down the stream. I lay still with awed eyes tired by the mid-day beam, snared by her availing beauty. (He looks up with a gentle smile starring passionately into Rene's eyes). She is my sunrise, the cascading melody of all my desires.
