My Excellent God

Oh Lord my excellent God how wonderful you are to me. How kind and gracious thou art, that it pleased you to restore my joy and remain my focus upon the enjoyment of your Excellency. For before I had been a man lost and walking in drought; I had bought about my own misery but I waited for your renewed mercy, for my soul was weak and my heart was numb. I was a beast but yet I held on tightly knowing that my Saviour will not fail me. And here today, with a delighted heart and a rejoicing soul, I lift my voice to you in the joy of your grace, knowing now that every tear and sin is wiped away. Oh, I rejoice that my Lord my Adonai is forever alive and forever will I cling to you. Oh that I may see your bodily presence and wrestle with you as a man wrestles with his friend; that I may feel the wetness of your sweat and feel the healing touch of your skin. You are my hope, you are a most worthy God, you are the delight of my eyes, the apex of my satisfaction. Glory be to your name, everlasting glory be to your name for you are not a God afar off but near; near to my beating heart which pounds for the weight of your glory.

Oh my earthly friends, in your trial and sufferings, in your longings and misery, I beseech you to wait upon the Lord; to wait for him for He will come to you and restore you. His restoration will come upon you as that of the coming of a thief in the night; suddenly it will appear and take away your sorrows and guilt. He will suddenly fill you with joy inexpressible and full of glory. Is your soul sad then let it be sad and conjure not for yourself false excitements but wait for the appearing of your saviour who bestows upon the soul of His saints lasting and true enjoyments. Do not be quick to fill your soul upon the broken cisterns of this world to satisfy your thirst for pleasure but wait and come to the fountain of God where the water flows and satisfies your innermost being. Did God not say that at His right hand there is pleasure forever more? Then why oh brother do you seek pleasure elsewhere? for who sits at the right hand of God? It is Jesus, and in him is infinite pleasure and delight forevermore.

Oh Lord my excellent God, How wonderful you are to me!
